Measurement

Today I was playing a game about measurement. On this game there are four different types of levels that you can play. The level that I'm playing is reading length. You have to give the length and then give the unit of the measurement then you will get it correct. This game is a little challenging. I would like to keep playing the game so I get good at it.

The terrible fall

Walt: write a narrative

On Monday Tainah was getting ready to perform her amazing  race in the kayak on the slow streaming lake. The competitors were  waiting in the long line ready to race. They waited and waited and it was time to race their hearts out. They waited until they said . . . . . . . GO !

Tainah was paddling like she was in a turtle race then she started to pick up the pace and was getting faster and faster and then she started to increase speed. She was paddling like Mahe Drysdale and she was coming first then . . . . . .  She plummeted into the water and seemed like she was drowning. Later, she said that her heart was beating 100 miles per minute because she was very frightened.

She got back onto her kayak quickly. Desperately because she wanted to win. She started to paddle again. She was coming second and  wasn't  far away from her opponent. She paddled and paddled until she was neck and neck with her opponent. It felt like the America’s Cup final but the difference was that they were in kayaks.

Then Tainah was coming first then her opponent then Tainah than her opponent. Then Tainah paddle fast and won the race. All of the Glen Innes supporters were all jumping up and and down and were shouting out their chants. She was so delighted that she won. She was so happy that she did the haka to celebrate.

The theme of this story is to don’t give up but try your best.

The Burning Blaze

Walt : Write a narrative.

Heeeeeeelp! wails an old retired lady who bangs on her window for help I peered outside to have a look and right across the road there's a big bright red blaze that shines on my face. It feels like I'm getting sunburnt so I desperately dash inside the house.

I could hear the timber of the house breaking like a cracker and the floorboards crashing down to the ground.  I cry out to the old lady to see where she was and she responded and said. softly “i’m in the lounge.” I sprint to the lounge and try and look for the old lady. I yell out again. She replies and says, “i’m over here.” I run and find the old lady that’s curled up in a ball in a corner of the lounge.

Jack picked her up and looked at her. She turned to him and she had a terrified look on her face. jack took her out of the Burnt house and took her to his house. Jack quickly called the fire brigade to come quickly before the fire gets extremely big. They waited and wait until we hear. . . . . . . Weee Owwww Weee Owww down the street.

Jack quickly directed them to the house and they rushed to stop the fire. We waited until they came back and said that it has been put out. We take a look and see that the house has turned into charcoal. She cries because all of her belongings are all gone. But she was still delighted that she didn't die in the fire.

If there is a big fire around. don’t be late to call for help.

Exponents

This equation was on exponents. I had to figure out the answer on a limited of time and the answer was 36. The strategy that I used for this was 6x6 because it had the exponent  2 . That’s how I got 36 for my answer.

Milk in schools

Walt: Share our thoughts on milk in school.

I think that children should need milk because it would give all the vitamins and calcium that they need to perform better at school. The government should be responsible for supplying children with milk because the government looks after everything around us. That's why the government should be responsible for supplying children milk. The milk will help the children have stronger bones and muscles. I think poverty is the real issue because most houses don’t have any food to eat in their households.

Scatter Graph

Today we had to make a scatter graph  about our readings of the marble roll.  We had to do it twice so we could have two graphs. This was a group experiment. This is what I did.

The reading room

Walt: discuss the problems and the solutions in sequence

The reading room

In the story, The Reading Room there are two problems in the story. The first problem is that Lisa wants to finish the book and the second problem is that she is in the toilet and her sister wants to have a shower.

The solution for the first problem is that she finishes the book and she knows the character in the book is still alive and is going to be ok. And the second solution for the last problem is that when she finishes the book she comes out of the toilet so her sister can go for a shower.

Probability experiment

This week we were doing a probability experiment we had to guess what it would land. Like would it land on down or up. My partner and I had to guess twenty times. And we had to tick if we got it right or wrong. This was really easy.

Probability pond

Walt: is to describe chances

Our topic for maths this week is about probability.
And the game that I played was called probability pond. The objective of the game is to click on the right answer certain or impossible. This game was really easy to play. What I want to learn next is to be the master at the game.

Cross country poem

Walt: Write a rap/poem

Cross Country.

Run Run I’m gasping for air.
I sweat but run to the finish line.
My time is almost 8.5.
I’m on my last lap.
I'm almost there.

I trip and graze myself.
I shiver with fear.
The marshal comes and picks me up.
I get back up and say.
I’m not giving up.

I begin to run again.
Adrenaline kicks in.
I sprint to the finish line.
I won I won.
The marshal says to me.
It was a photo finish.

Statistics vocabulary.

This week for maths we are focusing on statistics. And this game that I played was called statistics vocabulary. The aim of the game is to try and figure out what word goes to the right fraise. It took me awhile to figure out but then I got it right. It gets harder and harder when you go through the stages. I enjoyed this game very much I hope I can do it again sometime.

Collage/ Final

This is my finished and final collage that I did for digital Tech at Tamaki Collage.

Graphs

Walt:  Draw 3 different graphs that show your survey has been complete

In our group we have been revising statistics. We have done three different
graphs. The graphs that I have done is. A line graph, Bar graph and
lastly a pie graph. Before we had done that we first had to create a
survey for the student's that are going to sports camp this year.
We had to survey 50 students. And we had to have different topics
to share for the students at our school. My topic was, What colour would you like your t-shirt to be? After we finished our survey we had to feed the information into a graph like this. I know that most people like black more than all the recommended colours. And I know that the least favourite is grey.

Tiger put down

Walt: write a report/ narrative.

At the Wellington Zoo a Sumatran Tiger named Cantik that is 21 years old has been put down because of severe arthritis and malignant adrenal tumour. In 1994 she arrived to the Wellington zoo from the burger’s zoo in the Netherlands. They said that she would not survive invasive treatment. So their option was to put her down.

Sumatran tigers have short powerful legs huge paws and a powerful jaw. Sumatran Tiger cubs do not make contact with their father and Sumatran Tigers fail at least 90%  of the time catching prey. And the Sumatran Tiger are one of the five smallest subspecies of tiger.

I think that animals should receive euthanasia. Because it is a better way for them to die instead of the animals dying with pain. They can die a peaceful way. I think Wellington zoo should have a memorial for the Sumatran Tiger Cantik so the community can remember how a wonderful tiger she was.

I think Cantik the Sumatran tiger will be missed for a very long time.

Pizza game

Our walt was to make and serve pizza’s as quickly as we can The game that I played was papa's pizzeria. The objective of the game was to make the pizza's as quick as you can so you can get big tips from the customers. And when you are finished it shows you the amount of tips that you got for that day. I personally think that this game was a little challenging because you get more people everyday. And sometimes you unlock new people when you play the game very often.  I have improved from with my tips because I got a higher tip on my second attempt

Unfair.

Walt: Analyse the character in a story.

I chose Jamie because in this story she is frustrated and furious. She is 10 years old. Her sister Hannah keeps on making her angry. Jamie’s sister sat around and wasn't looking after Daniel when she meant to. At breakfast Jamie got a brown envelope and inside was 10 dollars. Jamie went to the shop to go buy her something. Then Hannah said that it was unfair. And Jamie said that’s life.

Jean batten

Walt: use our research to write an essay on an inspirational person.

Jean Gardner Batten.

I chose Jean batten for my inspirational person because she was the first solo pilot to fly across the world. She had the courage to be one of the first women to be a solo pilot. She shared her stories and trips with the public and tried to encourage other people to be a pilot so they can experience what she was experiencing. She accepted challenges like trying to beat Amy Johnson’s time to Australia. She had two unsuccessful attempts but she still persevered.

She did not brag or show off about her journeys around the world she just told her stories.  In my opinion she was humble modest. Her inspiration for being a pilot was Charles Kingsford Smith an Australian pilot. Jean Batten’s mum arranged her to fly with Charles Kingsford Smith. One of her solo flight records from England to Brazil was 61 hours and 15 minutes. She still holds that record.

Jean Batten Will be a lot and I wish she could come over to our school and share some of her stories and skills.

Fraction Millionaire

Today I walt is to multiply fractions. This game that I am playing is fraction millionaire.
The equation that I got was 3/5 x 4/7. The answer that I got was 12 over thirty five. My strategy was to multiply the first two numbers and then multiply the two numbers down bottom. The answer on top is 12 and the answer down bottom was 35. That’s how I got my answer 12/35.

Prevention is better than cure

Walt: respond to the presentation given by the Public Health Dept.

At our school we had special guests, doctors and the Vodafone Warriors. They were talking about rheumatic fever and  about how  to clean, cut, cover, and wash so the germs will go away and do not come into your skin. A doctor told us what  they do when you get a sore throat. She showed  how to take a swab of a thoat. A Vodafone Warrior was used to demonstrate. He was told to say ahh and to put your tongue out.

After that another special guest talk to us about living with rheumatic fever and his name was Awen Guttenbeil. He was talking about his experience with rheumatic fever. He said to us that he loved playing sport and said when he had a sore throat he was trying to be the big guy and try to not tell his mum or dad about it. Then one day he felt like he was paralyzed because he couldn't move.

His mum and dad took him to the doctor and then the doctor told them to go to the hospital. He had to take a injection for 10 years and stayed in the hospital for a few months. His story was really inspirational. After his story it was finished we went outside and got  autographs and took some photos. But I think the main message is if you get a sore throat you have to tell someone straight away.

Rap/poem

I'm the youngest in my team
because I play for Miami Heat
I'm nervous but proud because
everybody shouts and cheers
Then the hooter goes off
I shiver with fear.

I'm on the starting five
Then I run on to the court
two go for the jump throw
And then we are off
we get the ball I'm happy in my head
Then they pass me the ball
My eyes turn bright red

I dodge one person with my under leg
I'm unstoppable everyone thinks
Then I think to myself I'm the basketball king.
I make it to the hoop and shoot a three pointer
The buzzer goes off
It's the final quarter.

Were down by two and there's 10 seconds left.
They give the ball
I head straight to the net.
I jump in the air and do a slam dunk
I stay there for a while and then I jump off.

The people go wild they want to see it again.
But  it's the end off the game.

Everyone try your best.

Try and get the ball and shoot it in.

Bring it in the centre and start again then.

Attack the ball and win again.

Losing is really hard to take. But

Love to have fun.

Action Fraction

Walt: Add and subtract fractions with related denominators

In this game I am learning how to add and subtract fractions. In this game you have to click on the right answer so you racecar can go fast and win the race. It gets harder and harder. The answer for this equation is 17/20. My strategy was to first add the two top numbers. and that's how I got my answer 17/20.

Fractions/ Basic facts.

In this game you have to figure out how many pentagons can you see but in a mixed fraction. My answer is 2 and 2/5 because I counted the first two pentagons that had all of the five pieces to make the pentagon. Then counted the last to and then I figured out that it was 2 and 2/5.

Moneywise

Moneywise

Walt: Write a response to the talk by Evan

On Wednesday 31 of July  we had a special guest called Evan. He was from ASB and was talking to us about how to be good with money. Evan was really interesting to talk to Because he was really fun to. He has taught me a lot of ways how to spend your money. his saying is spend some on you but save some too. I think the experience was really fantastic. I would like to do it again

Ragge-Taggle chook

Walt: Retell story.

One day after a flood a girl named Robin found a chook that had been following the flood. All of its feathers were gone. The chook looked like a raggle-taggle chook. Robin went to go and show her mum when the mum looked at the chook she screamed with terror. Robin’s mum said that they should wring her neck and her dad said that they should chop its head off.

Robin did not agree. After that she ran at the back of their garden and started to dig and search for worms. Then Robin’s mum said you can keep the chook only if you look after it. Robin’s friends would save  some lunch for the chook and pick bunches of weeds so the chook could make her nest. The chook now lives in a verandah and mum  and dad are now liking the chook because the chook lays eggs for the mum so she can make omelets for dinner.

And dad likes the chook because everytime he comes back from work at night he holds the chook and walks around with it and talks to it. The next day the chook had scratched Mr dick’s peas that he just planted. Robin went over to say sorry but Mr dick said no worries because the chook repaid him with two eggs. Then Mr dick said to Robin that she had a great bird.

Ice Cream Task

Walt: Solve a rich task

Ice cream cake for everyone

My teacher gave us a task in maths and it was about how much people would be able to eat the ice cream cake and how much ice cream cake would people eat. It was extremely complicated the problem was that there were bakers in Beijing that made an ice cream cake that was 4.8 meters long 3 meters wide and 1 meter high. Our group decided that 512 cm3 was enough for one person. What I did I converted 1 meter into 100 centimetres then converted 3 meters into 300 centimetres and then I converted 4.8 meters into 480 centimetres. Then I multiplied 480, 300 and 100 to make 14,000000 then I used the calculator to divide 14,000000 into 512 then it gave me 28125. so my answer is 28125.

Mum Stepped........

Walt: Use better words.

Mum stepped on the stage and sang her heart out on X factor New Zealand. The judges loved her and said to her that she was dazzling.

They gave her four yeses and said that she was going to boot camp. When she heard that she made it in she burst with amazement and couldn't wait to start. One week later boot camp started and she was ready to sing. When it was her time to sing she sang spectacular and the judges put her into the semi-finals. Two weeks later it was time for semi-finals. My mum’s heart started panting. Her hands were getting numb.

She was facing other contestants . It was her time to sing she sang with all her energy and rocked the crowd. The judges judged her performance and said that she was in the finals.Three weeks later it was finals week and my mum was in the finals. She was practicing her song then her vocal cords were playing up. When it was her turn to sing she could feel her air getting thicker and thicker. When it was time to sing she froze..... To be continued.

Basic facts

Walt: Reflect on my basic facts assessment.

In stage 7 I got 60 out of 100 that’s why I went down to stage 6. When I did stage 6 I got a amazing score of 94 out of 100. Our teacher said that if we are below 90 then we would get put down a stage but if you are over 90 the you would be a stage up. In stage seven my weakness was the fraction and percentages and the prime numbers and LCF and < and > signs. In our class we call it the crocodile’s  mouth. But my strengths are division, the square numbers, and the square root numbers and lastly the HCF. In stage six my weakness was the crocodile mouth. But my strengths are place value, subtraction, addition, multiplication and last of all division. I think I did good for this test but I think I can do better on the next one coming up.

Perimeter and area

This game is about perimeter and area puzzle. The strategy was to add all of the sides and it would give you the answer on this equation I knew that five plus eight equals 13 so that would   mean that it would be the same on the other side. What I need to learn more about is fractions and percentages because I haven’t mastered it yet.

Design a garden

This game was a little complicated because when it was right it would say it was wrong. But I enjoyed playing the game. All you had to do was to drag the activities on the right unit. First I had to drag the clown space to six units and the see-saw eight units. and the last one ten units. What I would like to learn next is to work on my statistics and strand.
