Prevention is better than cure

Walt: respond to the presentation given by the Public Health Dept.

At our school we had special guests, doctors and the Vodafone Warriors. They were talking about rheumatic fever and  about how  to clean, cut, cover, and wash so the germs will go away and do not come into your skin. A doctor told us what  they do when you get a sore throat. She showed  how to take a swab of a thoat. A Vodafone Warrior was used to demonstrate. He was told to say ahh and to put your tongue out.

After that another special guest talk to us about living with rheumatic fever and his name was Awen Guttenbeil. He was talking about his experience with rheumatic fever. He said to us that he loved playing sport and said when he had a sore throat he was trying to be the big guy and try to not tell his mum or dad about it. Then one day he felt like he was paralyzed because he couldn't move.

His mum and dad took him to the doctor and then the doctor told them to go to the hospital. He had to take a injection for 10 years and stayed in the hospital for a few months. His story was really inspirational. After his story it was finished we went outside and got  autographs and took some photos. But I think the main message is if you get a sore throat you have to tell someone straight away.
